Information

We raise rare breed and heritage poultry for eggs, for meat and for pleasure. The breeds we select offer special qualities such as egg flavor, color and structure, meat flavor and texture or just their great temperament and funny personalities. We also are dedicated to preserving heritage breeds that are vanishing from the world's collective gene pool. We raise many breeds that are on the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy's Priority List for Chicken Breeds, which indicates which breeds are at the most risk of extinction. For example, Faverolles, which we raise, are on the Threatened List, which means that there are fewer than 1,000 breeding birds of this breed in the United States, or a global population of fewer than 5,000 birds.

Marans are quite rare, and are noted for their dark chocolate colored eggs. The Black Copper Marans are favored by both Martha Stewart and James Bond. What more can we say? We raise Black Copper Marans and Birchen Marans. Pictured above are two of our Birchen roosters.
Our Black Copper Marans are of the Cottage Hill, Wade Jeane and Bev Davis lines. Our Birchen Marans are from the Greenfire Farms line.

Serama are "mini-chickens" which are kept as pets in Malaysia, where they originated. Our American Serama come from the lines of Jerry Schexnayder and Luis and Linda Colarte.
Serama have delightful personalities and make wonderful pets. They come in a wide range of colors and patterns and do not breed true, so when you hatch out chicks you get many surprises.

Brahmas are docile birds which are also good layers. They are a very large bird, so large that we refer to our flock as "The Thundering Herd." Our Buff Laced Brahmas were bred by Dan Powell of One Earth Farm in Maiden Rock, WI.

We have other rare and heritage breeds such as Welsummers, Orpingtons, Sussex, Dominique, Delaware, Hamburg and Silkies among many others. Please feel free to contact us to discuss other rare breeds.
